How to Install Issue Pilot

Follow this step-by-step guide to install Issue Pilot in your Slack workspace

📋 Prerequisites

  • Slack workspace admin privileges: You must be a workspace admin or owner to install apps
  • Active Slack workspace: A functioning Slack workspace where you want to use Issue Pilot
  • GitHub account: Required for creating issues (can be set up after installation)

1 Navigate to Installation Page

Visit the Issue Pilot installation page here.

You'll see an overview of Issue Pilot's features and the installation button.

2 Accept Terms and Conditions

Before installation, you must accept the Terms and Conditions:

  • Read through the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy
  • Check the box to confirm you understand that Issue Pilot will access Slack messages and GitHub repositories
  • Acknowledge that AI-generated summaries should be reviewed before use

⚠️ Important: The "Add to Slack" button will remain disabled until you accept the terms and conditions.

3 Click "Add to Slack"

Once you've accepted the terms:

  1. Click the "Add to Slack" button (purple button with Slack logo)
  2. You'll be redirected to Slack's authorization page
  3. Review the permissions Issue Pilot is requesting

4 Authorize Permissions

On Slack's authorization page, Issue Pilot will request the following permissions:

Workspace Permissions:

  • commands: Run slash commands like /github-setup and /github-config
  • chat:write: Send messages to create GitHub issues
  • channels/groups/im/mpim:history: Read message history to convert threads to issues
  • channels/groups/im/mpim:read: View channels to access conversations

User Permissions:

  • users:read: View user information for context

Click "Allow" to grant these permissions.

5 Installation Complete

After authorization:

  • You'll see a success message confirming the installation
  • You'll be automatically redirected to the billing login page after 5 seconds
  • Issue Pilot is now installed in your workspace and available to all members

🎉 Success! Issue Pilot is now installed. You'll automatically start on the free plan with 5 issues per month.

6 Verify Installation

To verify Issue Pilot is installed correctly:

  1. Open your Slack workspace
  2. Go to the Apps section in the sidebar
  3. Look for "Issue Pilot" in your installed apps
  4. Try typing /github-setup in any channel - you should see the command autocomplete

Can't see the "Add to Slack" button?

Make sure you've checked the Terms and Conditions checkbox above the button.

Getting "Not authorized" error?

You must be a workspace admin or owner to install apps. Ask your workspace admin for help.

Installation seems stuck?

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then restart the installation process.
